When you download the Arduino IDE in Linux, the download comes with the FTDI drivers bundled with the IDE. However, if you just open Arduino from the desktop, you'll notice that, if you click on 'Tools', the 'Serial Port' option is grayed out.
I'm using it with Arduino Mega 2560 PRO MINI (5V). The Arduino board doesn't have USB port, so I decided to try FT231X.It's fully compatible and works fine.My current fully updated Windows 10 Pro found/downloaded drivers for FT231X via Windows Update Service. (had to check for optional updates)
When I was try trying to connect XGS to my computer (Win10) over micro USB cable unknown hardware was found. Surprisingly I could not found any details about this driver on Sophos pages, so I downloaded from FTDI site: -drivers/ and run it. Unknown hardware was then succesfully installed as virtual COM3 and žiwas able to connect XGS with Putty. -000035769?language=en_US
